Removal of heater hoses 2.0 litre
Changing all my hoses on my euro spec 2.0 924.
How are the two small hoses which run to the heater connected? They seem to run through the bulkhead ... Where do they clamp? Inside the car ? |

What year is your car?
AFAIK, all of the 2.0L cars have the hose clamps in the engine bay, right at the firewall. I have two Euro spec cars + have worked on several US-spec, and all of the ones I've seen have had the clamps in the engine bay, not in the passenger compartment. My earliest car is a '78, so it's possible the really early cars are different. The fittings on the heater core pass through the firewall. The hose clamps are difficult to get to because of their position behind the head. It helps to remove the coil, and to move some of the wiring harnesses around until you can get to the clamps. You will need to remove the top clamp and get that hose off in order to reach the second one. Also, I hope you've already procured the hoses. The bottom hose that attaches the heater core to the heater control valve is NLA from Porsche. I have seen a couple of postings that indicate that the 924S/944 hose can be made to work, but I have not attempted this mod myself.

Wow - thanks for detailed reply.
Mine is an 83. I have the cylinder head off so access is good but there are no clamps. Worryingly! I don't have new hoses but mine look worn. As they are short I was thinking of making up some silicone replacements if I can find the same diameter tubing - what do you think ? |

And thanks to your brilliant reply, I've read about the mod which suggests cutting down the length of the following hose as it passes through the firewall on the other models.

Still not got these off! To scared to start cutting at them but wondered if it is possible my 2.0 has been fitted with heater core out of a 2.5S model or a 944.
How would I tell and is this indeed possible? |

Well, turns out my heater core pipes do not protrude into the engine bay. Found the clamps in the passenger compartment!
No idea why and seems dangerous! Any suggestions how this came to be ? Picture below. ![]() |

Most likely a modification by a previous owner, as to my knowledge, none of the 2.0L cars were designed that way. The heater cores are NLA, so you might not even have an OEM heater core in there, which would be a likely explanation for the non-standard location of the hose clamps.
