engine running rough

Sunday i got into my 87 944S and the engine ran very rough ie. like only on one cylinder. after about 3 minutes it smoothed out and it was ok, once i gave it a little gas and the rpm's started to come down to idle it started to run rough again. I checked all the plugs and cap/ rotor all ok- timing also good. Needless to say i started the car again but all was ok 2 minutes later once again running rough. does anybody have any suggestions or has experienced this????????????

First probable cause would be the DME (aka fuel pump) relay. This could be your trouble and it is considered a maintenance item to be replaced at some point. I had similiar symptoms.

just had the DME relay replaced in December, but that doesn't mean it could of failed.

Have you ever had the motor mounts replaced? The engine will run ruff at idle if the mounts are gone, and then smooth out once you build up speed. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/men_ani.gif
