we have discused motor mounts
I bought motor mounts 2 years ago cheap from E-bay not knowing anything about the quality and importance of that.
any way after only about 1,000 miles in the 2 years these mounts are no good. What have you used and where did you get them. I know our host sells them and so on but I would like personal input on what you have used and what they cost you. I do not want to spend over 200 each. I have searched the archives here and couldn't locate the old posts.

The only really good replacement I have heard of is the OEM Porsche. Everything else is dead quickly

I'm still waiting to see if I can get some more input on the billet mounts with the elastomeric inserts. I'd heard that the threaded rod was crappy but I'd like to get some to try. I am not spending 600 on factory mounts and I am not buying cheap ones after I got 3 bad ones in a row. If I need to modify the rod on the billet ones to make them work properly then I'll certainly consider that as an option.

gawernator, thanx for the link but they don't list the 83 year for mounts. I have seen the OEM Porsche mounts from Germany for $109 and OEM Porsche mounts for over 200. this is my confusion. OEM to me has always meant OEM then why are there 2 different OEM mounts both have the same part number but different stock number.

For 170 each I might go oem, but I'm still thinking hard about semi solid billet mounts.

I am pretty sure they are the same for both years? My PO replaced the mounts and all parts replaced were OEM/Genuine... they were over a $100 each but not $200, so idk what brand or type

$400 for Genuine Porsche mounts that are guaranteed by Porsche to last at least 2yrs and more likely much, much longer is cheap insurance imo. Buy the cheap ones and you probably will do the job again 2 times during the next 2yrs and they won't be as good from the get go - do the math. |

I agree 9FF, this is why the post, the mounts I found for $109 are a 2 year warrenty as is the genuin porsche mounts on the same site as the cheaper ones. Funny that the OEM porsche mounts have only a 2 year warrenty?

Agreed. Two years is too soon to need replacement.

Alan, here's my experience with notor mounts:
Deutsche Parts, Uro - solid rubber - last less than a year - cause an anoying vibration from new - no warranty - Don't waste your money. Meyle - sold as OEM but they are not - solid rubber - warranty is worthless - seem to work for about a year then they are junk. Rein - OEM supplier - hydraulic - same as genuine with the factory "P" triangle and part# rubbed off - warranty is from Rein not Porsche - work as well as genuine. Genuine Porsche - hydraulic - they work and last a long time - 2yr Porsche warranty. Your choice. |

Thank you 9FF, this is what I was looking for. The cheap mounts I got 2 years or less than 1000 miles ago had the numbers rubbed off and obviously didn't last.

I've done this job on my S2 more times than I care to remember. I now use a Porsche mount on the passenger and an aftermarket on the driver. The passenger side takes so much more pounding.
Another negative on some of the aftermarket one's is that the little hump on the top is sloped on both sides! It causes the bolt holes to not line up well with the engine mount. It should be 90 deg on one side and sloped on the other. I've had to grind the slope on a few of them to make them fit properly.

Motor mounts
Marko: I'm going to be changing mine soon also. If you have done this more than once, you probabaly have found out the best (easiest?) way to change them. Can you give us 1st-timers some tips, do's and don'ts, etc.? Thanks.

Can't really offer much else than what's on clarks garage. When marking the cross member bolts, instead of scribing them, I use a white out pen, much easier to see. I've also had to raise the engine more than I'd like to get the little buggers out. Again, make sure the little nub on the mount has that 90deg angle. Have fun!

Yeah still got a pair in my car... If I think about it I'll keep them to send to you although I'd like to install them in the manufacturer's backside.
