Cooling Fans

Quick question i know the answer is someone on the board but i'm having trouble locating it. So here goes... when i turn the car on both fans come on at high speed right away doesn't matter if the car is started or just in position 1.

I have pulled the relay out and the fans don't come on and all fuses are good. So i'm assuming its the fan thermo switch. Let me know if i'm correct on this assumption please, so i can order it.

This is on my 91 944S2
Thanks,

Kenne

each fan has its own circuit, so for both fans to turn on at start-up would mean that you most likely have two different probblems. The a/c fan is turned on by a pressure switch inside the a/c lines. and the cooling fan is turned on by the fan thermo switch. But before you replace those items, make sure there are no other switches or relays that could turn them both on( I find it a good idea to stop by a dealer and ask to see thier manuals, especially if your car has a two stage fan- which I have no clue if the circuits are connected).

On my 944 85.5na... Relay #10 for the cooling fans caused both fans to come on when ignition turn to "on".
Relay P/N 944.615.104.01.. cleaned contacts and cooling fan system functions normally.

You could take an ohm meter and check resistance across each switch after unplugging leads. Do the radiator one when radiator is cool. It should show an open circuit. Or, you could just unplug leads from radiator thermo switch and the pressure switch from AC. Then with ignition on, plug them back one at a time to see if either one is the culprit. Radiator sensor is on driver side about 3/4 from bottom (under big hose). AC pressure switch is probably on receiver/dryer.

What I have said is for an '86 951.
