Question Steering Rack Replacement

Just got in a reman Steering rack for my 85 1/2 944 and in need of instructions in how to change it. is there any How tos etc on the net for this job? I was told by a friend that in the Feb 02 eddition of the Excellence magazine there was such an article but I am unable to find it anywhere.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

I basically unbolted the old one and put the new one in its place. I measured the distance between rotors so I could get the toe in/out business the way it was. Or you can count threads on tie rods and do it that way. Or do both to be sure.

I think the instructions said to turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times before starting.

There is a torque setting for rack to cross member. Can't remember what it is as I type this.

I have that Excellence. I would be glad to scan the article and post it for you. Give me an hour or so.

It's up.

Go to www.ninefiveone.com and then go to Repair Tips and then Maintenance.

Enjoy!

THANKS!!!

Thanks a lot dude! This is really going to save what I have left of my hair from being pulled out!!

I can honestly say that the porsche boards are the best! I have had a couple Firebirds and never ever had such quality responses and in such a quick time frame!

It is a zip file that you will need to extract with winzip.

The screen is entirely blank -- nothing to click/download/see etc. It may be my sucky network netscape version -- I'll get the system admin folks over here to load up a version of evil-bill's exploder on my windows emulator, thanks
