Rubbing belt on water pump pulley

Hi folks,

I just put in new belts and water pump on my 87 944t. The problem I ran into is that the belt for the balance shafts is rubbing against the waterpump. Just slightly but it does rub. Any idea how to eliminate this?

Picture attached.

Thanks,

the balance shaft belt tensioner (the pulley on the eccentric on the bottom passenger side). i believe you should be turning it clockwise to tension the belt. you are probably turning it the other way to tension the belt, which is raising it up towards the pump.

Thanks,

Never thought of that. Just assumed that it had only one lobe.

Correct! Clockwise on the BB tension roller.
