Tornado generator before AFM, Modification.

To All:

:DI'm in the process of doing this modification in my stock AFM Setup (Temporary, until i finalize the MAF programming a few days). It the vortex Generator mounts within the AFM Inlet adapter (no oem airbox) setup. This should improve air flow and throttle response before it contacts the AFM trap door. Will post pics later today.

No.

guru944 04-13-2013 11:36 AM

V2:
Why not?

Air never travels in a straight line but in waves like ribbons.
This is going into my OEM afm unit not my new MAF converson sensor, where it would cause errors in reading density.....

Please elaborate?

Later...

Throttle response is largely determined by the distance between the intake valve and the throttle blade. Related is the amount of restriction in the air path. Just about anything short of WOT leaves the AFM door with a very small opening so there's not much to be gained ahead of the AFM.

IF you find a dyno test to prove a power gain I wouldn't go there, after all there are companies advertising 8 bhp gains from a pod filter ??????.

You'll be better off installing a computer ventilation fan on the intake. Poor man's blower really rocks! Pull up to the light next to that new viper. Give him a cocky nod as you switch on that bad boy, jamming massive air into your engine. That viper driver never saw anything like your badass ride!

Pfft.... CPU fan is for lightweights.... I run a leafblower.

Gawernator 04-24-2013 07:45 AM

Actually these two guys on YouTube gained a couple HP using two leaf blowers

Brozoar 04-24-2013 08:04 AM

How much power do you think you'd gain from adding one of these:

I'm sorry, that was mean. =( I am interested in this, actually. There are enough flame wars already about the effectiveness vs. ineffectiveness of altering the air intake path. On the one hand, the logic is sound; on the other, it is unreasonable to expect such cheap power gains. So I'm always on the edge of my seat waiting for one of these home brew mods to work substantially.

Gawernator 04-24-2013 09:07 AM

They don't work at all. Sorry

Volhv 04-24-2013 10:09 AM

I've heard of decent power gains obtained from devices that force more air into the intake........ some are powered by the car's own exhaust gases (imagine that!) others are belt driven.

ernie9944 04-24-2013 10:32 AM

Not exactly force induction but on the 968 the intake plenum contains two separate inductions paths, one for low speed operation and a second one for engine speed over 4,000 RPM.At that speed,a bypass tube in the intake direct the air flow into the high speed passage to provide a super charging effect to the intake mixture.Taken together the duel-path plenum and the VarioCam does help explain why the 968's off-idle provide such an immediate and satisfying whump to the small of your back. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1366828274.jpg:D

don't mean to p*$$ on your parade :) but vortex devices are an utter waste of money and the only hp's gained reside between the ears so to speak. there is absolutely no basis to presume that these devices 1. create a lasting vortex and 2. that this has a positive effect on either throttle response or mixture. besides, the barn-door style AFM will always be slower than an MAF sensor setup. If you want razor-sharp throttle response you'll need to convert to individual throttle bodies and a tuned intake plenum (like the E46 M3 CSL). I'd much rather invest that sort of money somewhere else, though...

mreid 04-24-2013 12:56 PM

What???...really???

FransB85 04-25-2013 06:07 AM

:p haha yes, hope I didn't burst your bubble :p

Mainly, these "As seen on TV" performance products make wild claims of horsepower, torque, and fuel mileage that are all complete lies for a normal car. If there is any shred of truth to any of thier claims, it may be on a car that is set up to accentuate the positive of what the product can do (Maybe on a carbed car with a cold air intake tube that dumps directly into the carb with no restrictions). I just bet that the only place any of these claims were seen as truth is in a closed, controlled enviroment where the car is hooked up to many sensors, tubes, and meters that can all be tweaked to show whatever they want

Tornado is a complete waste of money on 99% of the cars on the road !

ernie9944:
Yes, the 968 unit is dual resonance intake system. I already upgraded to this with big power gains above 3500rpm. It is better then the S2 intake and much better than the stock S oem Mg intake.
Looking for more hp Na before the final MAF and Turbo setup...
Later....
