I'm a noob to Porsche but what is this nonsense?

Hi all. Ok, yes, admittedly I am a noob to Porsche but what is all of this about? The picture is oriented as if the top were the firewall. At the top left hand side of the picture, there is a wire with a female flat blade style electrical connector, that sits deep inside the oval shaped rubber boot. What does it go to? THe other elipticals are little eletrical pins of some type that are just hanging there loosely. What are they for? What might they have gone to? Am I missing sommething?

It would help to know the model and year of your car. Some car brands, on their wiring harness set up (s) leave wire ends hanging if you didn't order a certain option. Ex. cruise control, etc. If it's not there, the wire for it is.

Definitely. Year and model will help tremendously. And maybe a zoomed out pic would better orient us. That being said, Those loose wires look like ground wires, though I'm not sure what they're supposed to go to. The wire with the rubber boot kind of looks like the connector for the light under the hood.

Brown ones look like the hood alarm switch wires, with the plastic part missing. I don't know about the other one.. I have it also, and it's not connected to anything.

I think you are quite right on the alarm, the colours of the wires are correct:

The other one - don't know - would need colours, etc.

So this thing actually had a hood alarm at one time or was equipped to add it? Was it designed to alert you that the hood was open or what? Got some wrench time coming tomorrow so I will look and see if I can find perhaps a hood light that is just not working for the other wire. I'll get better pic and colors as well. Thanks for the help!
