944 gas leak. Help oh mighty Porsche wizards.
Hey, I have a 1989 944 with an 83 engine. It seems to be leaking gas from the end of the line that is connected to the fuel pump(the part under the tank is the fuel pump right?). Also, don't know where my fuel filter is and i would really appreciate it if someone could guide me as to where it is..
I have 2 DME Bosch relays: one is for an 89 and the other is an 83. It runs with either or but I don't know what to look out for when it comes to what's best for the car. Help? |

There is no difference in the DME relays. Used is used, plug one in and keep the second in the glove box as a spare. I have an 83, 87 and an 88. They keep jumping from one car to the next when trouble shooting. One is taller than the other two but when I opened them up the guts are the same, two relays and a diode.
The fuel pump on your 89 in mounted under the car on the bottom of the gas tank within a sheet metal housing, your fuel pump is behind this cover. Crawl under the right rear and remove the two small screws that hold the cover. Look closely at the fuel hose that connects to the pump and the tank to see if it is leaking. If you need to replace the fuel hose you can use hose from any auto parts supplier but the OEM hose coming from the tank takes a hard turn so you will need to use a little more hose to keep it from kinking. The fuel filter is located under the car in front of the fuel tank. Follow the fuel hose from the tank, it will turn upward and the filter is mounted to the frame with a banded clamp. This section of the fuel hose is under 30-35 psi of pressure. The short hose between the fuel pump and filter have been know to leak. |

![]() ![]() Some of the original equip Porsche fuel hoses are now NLA. I make these replacements for the factory originals....... ![]() You must send me the old one to duplicate or provide specific dimensions. These are not old stock hoses that has been sitting on a shelf for 20 odd years. They are made to order using the correct crimps and the latest Multi-Fuel hose from Germany. For questions and prices email works best. Please read this......NO PMs. Len ![]() |

ClarksGarage has some pics of the location and layout of the fuel filter and hoses.
