New 4v Valve Cover bolts: Chrome or SS

Hi guys,

I create things for PelicanParts to sell (when I can). A new product about to hit the markets are my latest Valve Cover Bolt/Grommet replacement kit.

$69 944S/S2 Valve cover bolt kit in Chrome: 12 sets of Chrome bolts, washers, double-seal oring/washer assembly. Replace aged, failing rubber, incredibly expensive bolts with a more interesting product.

$39 for the 944S/S2 Stainless Steel set: 12 sets of SS Bolts, washers & double-seal oring assemblies.

Email me if you're interested. Mark
Sorry, no Stainless bolt kit pictures yet.

They get overtorqued and snap, likewise they get "alloy bound" a greater force then is designed for them is required to remove - and they snap. They cost sillly money to replace. That said, if you bolts undo just re-use...So long as they behave, no need to replace IMO.

Seems a fashion tax, what if I just need 1? Why do I need to buy a complete set?

You over-torque any M6, it'll snap.

I don't want to reuse ugly, failing yellow Cad-plated 25 year old bolts & rubber. Notice the chunks of rubber missing from the rubber washer in the first picture? You can continue to reuse your bolts, go for it.

I'll sell per valve cover. Yes, it is a fashion statement to a degree, but look how unattractive some of our engine components are...yellow bolts & clamps included.

Mark.

Hey Mark, it looks like a great product. Just worth noting the "bound over torque" scene. You know, when they snap open...gotta be a weaking factor ect. If your kit includes brand new hardware above and beyond spec then all good - especially if tarted up with chrome ect... Why though, original are stainless?

if you are just tarting up old original bolts with shiney chrome then its not a worthwhile product...given what I just mentioned. Unless sold as bling at buyers risk?

Original are not stainless: just Cadmium plated steel. Bolts are low-torque and with new seals are not as prone to leaking at the top.

I think even tension between the 12 bolts is more important that torque: my own opinion formulated over 17 years or so. I'll include torque specs and suggestions with the bolts.

Getting the old bolts to re-coat in Chrome would be expensive: hard to find these anyway. I opted for new.

Ok Mark, just get real for a minute here - if you have a genuine solution to expensive fasteners why pick on an obscure 944 model? Its a silly scam. Even cheech and chong aint thought about it yet...so I guess its a good idea.

Mate its bull****...

You don't have to buy; there's no gun to your head. I need 6 valve cover bolt sets myself, so I have a personal interest as well. PS, I sell other products through Pelican as I'm one of their vendors.

Stainless bolts

Hello Mark,
I can't say the valve cover is the prettiest thing to look at in the bay of my S2.
Do you know what grade of stainless steel you are using ?

Thanks much , Paul
