Hatch roll out shade help(info needed)

Hi everyone. I need a little help determining what year they changed the rear hatch roll out shade. I have an 85.5 and a 87 and they have different shades. The roll out shade is basically the same but the ends are different. What I need to know is if the early cars had a different shade, and what year they changed this piece. Here are some pictures to help figure things out.

The black roll out shade is from a 87NA, non S, it has a bigger opening for the shade to roll out, and it has less rivets holding it together, and in different spots. The burgundy piece is from an 85.5.

Thanks for the help guys.

The end cap on the right of your picture is the same as my 83 - definitely the early car.

I wouldn't worry about the number of rivets or the opening. I would be more concerned with the function. The shade on my 83 is similar to a common window shade. On end contains the spring which you can set using a fork. As you tension the spring it should lock in place. The end cap should have the female slot that locks the spring in place. The other end is just an axle the allows the shade to rotate. My end cap is just a boss in the center with a hole.

I had access to a machine shop and I made my caps out of metal.

Do we see the great mind of only944.com in the middle of a product development?

If it's new end caps I could use those xD

Pops - Yep! I am actually almost finished, I am just trying to figure out what year Porsche changed the end caps.

Jcommin - The later end cap is actually a different setup. For the most part they are not interchangeable, but they do both work the same way.

Gawernator - I know, you need everything. You are going to have a super nice car one of these days, not that it isn't already.

It looks like I just answered my own question from looking at the part numbers. It seems like there is no rhyme or reason. There are two different types listed for all years. I guess they just install whatever they had available at the time.

Thanks, and I agree because I think my early 944 had what is supposedly the "new" style and vice versa o_o

Thanks again for the boot... your products definitely make my 944 that much more enjoyable (944 enjoyable? Ha.. ha.. haha.......) SmileWavy:D

Gawernator,

You sold your car? The one that was always giving you all the troubles, the red one?
