944S transmission
Can anyone tell me if a 944S trans will fit a turbo. I am pretty sure the gear ratios are different but for some reason i thought the shaft diameters were different? 87 for both if year matters.

It will bolt right up, but the gearing will be rather short, unless you are running an oversize tire, such as an 18.

I am running 17 inch tires. It looks like the only difference in ratio is the final drive ratio so I think you are right the trans from the S is geared lower. Is it possible to convert a standard trans to a limited slip? I assume it might just be a matter of cost at that point.

Are you racing, or are you using the turbo as a daily driver? You should be able to google a formula to calculate the redline in each gear, using the 944S transmission. It may work for you, and give you an acceleration advantage. When i was looking at building an SP3 car, I found that the 944S transmission, with the appropriate 18" tires, would have given me, what I thought would be a definite advantage, in the turbo. The 924S/944/951 LSD can be installed in any of the manual transmissions. Just be aware that the only replacement clutch plates for the LSD, are out of the turbo S, which are thicker, and would involve more machining (cost) if the LSD, has to be rebuilt. Installation of the LSD, should only be done by a mechanic with the appropriate knowledge to set the tooth contact area on the ring and pinion, or you will end up with an expensive piece of scrap metal.
