Need some help.
 

Hi guys I just picked up a 944 track car. Came with the cam housing off of the car P.O said he took it off to check the valve springs I suppose. My question is in order to reinstall beside the gasket do I have to do any thing else I checked the cam and its workings appears to be fine do I just sit it with the new gasket and put the screws in and torque them down. I've never done this before I know I have to make sure my timing marks are good before attempting to crank her up. But need advise or a human to help me. Thanks

For the installation of the Cam Housing. Note: There is no sequence as to how the bolts are tightened, but using the "Star" pattern is suggested to draw the cover down evenly.

Thanks. Correct me if the cam housing stays up from the head a bit because it has to be compressed easily and evenly right? I thought it was going to fit flush but that's not the case.

Correct. The cam housing won't sit flat until the screws are tightened. I would be wondering why the PO took it apart.

Is it your first 944 or have you just never done engine work like this.

It's not my first I've just haven't gotten this deep into them but the P.O said he removed it to check the valves or valve springs. But he gave up on it, and let it sit for a few years, he said when it reved up to 5 or 6 thousand rpm it would shut off something like a rev limiter, but not quite. I just want to get it back together and run it.

It might be a good idea to take the head off and check things out. The PO felt the need to take it apart so there must be a reason.

It takes an allen-socket head and you may have to grind down the head of the socket part so it'll fit into the holes in the cover. Be careful it doesn't come off when you withdraw it.
