924 - first 100 miles
Well I got her running, took her on the maiden voyage last night. I've established.. I'm not a big fan of the 4 speed.. is there a 5 speed transmission that can be swapped in? I also lost my fuel guage after driving for a bit and fueling up. Bad ground? another item ran by a light bulb circuit?

Later 924s came with a 5 speed. I do not know exactly what a swap entails, though. Why don't you like the 4 speed?

I hate to be the one to say this but for the price buy a 944.
Sell your 924 get maybe 1K or more, take the money you would have used to buy a new tranny and what ever you needed to get it in. Save a bit more and buy a semi-decent order 944. If you really want to swap, the later ones had 5 speeds to the best of my knowledge. Regards Dave

I don't going 70 and wrapping out at 4k. I feel like a 5th gear would unlock so much more potentional with this car

Sorry. Don't like going 70 and wrapping out. Completely left a word out lol.
Hey while I'm still live here, what is the recommended oil? When I managed to blow out all my oil I instinctively put 10/30 in. but I kinda feel like its too thin compared to what I cleaned up |

Brad Penn 15w40 is what I'd recommend. Others say to use 20w50, but you're pretty far up north so I'd use something a little thinner.

5-speed swap is indeed a bolt-in if you use the correct one - but will require a few parts... mainly the shift rod is different, in addition to the trans... and a very nice one to have.
Don't worry about trying to shop for a '44.

I live in NE Ohio, and drive the car in temps down to around 40F without any issues. I run Valvoline VR1 20W50. My oil pressure light flickers at idle on hot days, which is completely normal per the owner's manual. I would think 15W40 might be a bit thin.

Too bad you are not closer. I am in Ohio and have a '79 924 parts car (complete, but rust in the fuel tank) for $700. It has a Snail Shell transmission that would work for you.

Sorry, but the snail is not the one you want for a conversion... you need an '80-onward non-turbo, for the easiest swap (as noted in my link).
A 944 5-speed could be done, but requires torque tube and clutch disc swap as well... so a lot more involved.

Speaking of parts car. Does anyone have a condenser near by? I'm tired of hearing my alternator once I hit 4k lol
