Balance Shaft Cover Torque Issue
Had a question about torquing of the balance shaft covers. I have a 3/8" digital torque wrench which worked well on the larger bolts/nuts on the girdle.
The first torque setting of 11 FT Lbs was no problem, using the digital wrench. The second setting of 22 Ft Lbs is the issue. I was not able to get to 22 Ft Lbs. One of the bolts (original),actually stretched a little and I might have made it to 16 Ft Lbs or so. I tossed that bolt and replaced it with a new one but I seem to have the same issue (unable to reach 22 Ft Lbs)...I stopped before stretching that bolt. The last thing I want to do is break a bolt. I tried a mechanical torque wrench and had a similar result. Any suggestions?

22 ft lbs sounds high. Where did you get this value?

Haynes manual. 1st torque on the 6mm bolts is 11 Ft LBS, second setting 22 Ft Lbs. I didn't check the factory manual recently but I recall that the values in Haynes matched the factory manual.

Clark's Garage showing 7 ft-lb for M6 and 14 ft-lb for M8. I don't have the factory manuals available.

Thanks for the info! I am going to spend some more time on Clark's garage to make sure that I don't mess this rebuild up.

I used the torque values from Clark's and had no problems at all, I was able to pull the advertised torque values without problem.
