Annoying Upshift Light

I've got an 87 944S, which has the upshift arrow on the face of the tach. Does anyone have a good way of disabling this annoying light? I've had the cluster apart, and it appears to be an LED or something, not an easily removable bulb.........
If there is something I could unplug, that would be great, otherwise I guess I'll just make a cover out of black tape.........

I am only familiar with the 924S upshift light---connected to the Hall sensor on the odometer.

Does the 944S have a miles per gallon guage as well? If you have both, you may loose the MPG function if disconnected.

'87 924S Speedometer wires?

No MPG gauge on this one. The 944 has a different cluster setup from the 924S, all the gauges are in one unit with no hall sensor on the speedo.........

MPG gauge on the 944 was only in '86 and earlier non-turbos. Ditched for subsequent years.

CASIS (shift light) is actually pretty sophisticated and changes when it illuminates. CASIS was also on the Carrera 3.2's of similar years as well I think. It runs through the DME.

I believe CASIS was ditched for 1989. You could get a cluster from an '89 and newer non-turbo. But then your mileage would be off. AND I don't know if a cluster from another year (or just with different lights and things) would work.

Take care,

I've pulled these clusters a bunch of times. The bulbs in the back are easy to pull for all the indicator lights. Is the CASIS light different from the rest of the indicator bulbs?

It's been a while since I've had the cluster apart, but I don't think it's a simple matter of removing a light bulb. As I recall, it's buried in the tachometer, and may be an LED soldered to a circuit board........

It's not an LED. I might have a photo of it in my thread on removing the cluster and repairing odometer.

The Canadian cars don't have the CASIS arrow. The tach or cluster from one of those would be an easy fix. You can than keep the useless fuel consumption gauge.

How long have you been driving it?
I stopped noticing it pretty early on, but yeah, it bugged me too in the beginning.
It's actually come in handy for me after a long day a couple of times, zone out and forget about 5th gear, it'll remind you.
