1984 Porsche 944 with 7500 original miles

As an early car enthusiast I just had to share this absolutely SHOWROOM NEW '84 listed on eBay. Miles verified with Autocheck. Price is subjective at $25,000 but they don't show up like this very often. Enjoy..

And as a feeler, if anyone has a nice clean early car that would be possibly interested in trading for my equally clean and nicely sorted '86, PM me.

That's an extremely clean 944. I think that car was listed on ebay some months ago for the same price. Or was it a red 944, I can't remember now.

Now that car looks like it only has 7500 miles. Someone never got to enjoy it. Shame

Ha ha ha. $25,000. They're on drugs. Even if the mileage is real (which with an early car and their six-digit odometers, I'm always suspicious of).

It is a really nice, clean car. But it's an early car; that's strike one. Early cars just aren't as desirable as late cars.

The second defect is under the hood. The master cylinder reservoir looks new, as does the window washer reservoir. But the coolant tank is all yellowed. Why? That really makes me wonder about the mileage.

The last problem are the seats. They're really nice. They look like they're from a 928 or something. But that's a big problem: they're not original.

The main value of a car like this is if it's absolutely 100% original, just as it rolled out of the show room. Any additions or alterations detract heavily from it's value to a collector.

If there is someone in the world who'd pay big money for a car like this, eBay is a good way to reach them. And a car is worth whatever anyone will pay. But the collector's market is extremely small.

It's unlikely it'd ever sell for something close to $25,000 for anyone who figured to drive it.

I think $8-10,000 might be more likely - and even that'd be pushing it.

Wouldn't any 944 coolant res have oxidized to that pale beige after 30 years?

I did question the seats as the bolster just looks non-standard, but realized they look like '83 Sport Seats Part# 911 521 604 50?

At 7,500 I wonder if the car's had its first oil change?
Are the tires original?

Nice car! way to much money. Steering wheel is also not original. And any coolant will oxidize after 30 years.

They're made from different types of plastics. Under the hood of my 140k mile '84 944, the brake fluid res is still pretty white, the washer tank is a little more yellow, and the coolant tank it really, really discolored. It seems pretty normal to me that over time the coolant tank yellowed while the other ones didn't, since I see pretty much the same thing on every 944.

Also, those look like early sport seats to me. Are you sure they're not original?

I'm pretty sure it is. My '84 has that wheel, and it's original to my car.

I still don't think it's worth $25,000, but it looks legit and original to me. A quick look at the option code sticker would clear all this up.

The wheel and seats are both options available on MY84 cars. Even if the wheel has been changed that is a minor issue for a car like this.

Honestly the 944 owners are why these cars are so cheap, nit picking over cars that are super nice and driving the value down.

This car wont go to anyone on here to drive. It should go into a collection to be further preserved.

Agreed on all points..
Hope a collector does grab it so that 25 years from now our grandchildren can still see what excellence meant.
I'd drive it and end up with rock chips and worn seats.

Agreed, no sane person here would buy that car, we all like to drive them! Cannot understand buying a car and letting it sit in a garage, what a waste of a perfectly good car. Unfortunately this car will be bought by a collector and remain unused for another 20 years. Dr Porsche must be turning in his grave.

Those seats are more than likely original, I would bet they are. They are not 928 seats. They are run-of-the-mill early sport seats. 928 seats looked entirely different until the 928 adopted the same 'new'(er) seats as all models did in 1985, but with different stitching.

Also, ALL coolant tanks, at least until the nineties maybe, came with a yellow tint. They were never white when they were new. The white color started sometime in the 968 era (or perhaps VERY late 944 era). If you think I'm wrong, ask Porsche for underhood pictures of the 944 from 1984.

Firewall foam looks really good too. Still not sure why the early cars had that, but whatever!

While 25k may be high, I think it's probably worth above 15k for the right buyer.

Looks like 7500 miles to me. Everything looks correct. Yes, there are sub-10,000 mile cars out there. And I agree that it should be driven!

Take care,

Mike, you meant *five* digit right? Haha, anyways, I agree on what's up with the totally yellowed coolant tank...

Looks like all the usually missing engine bay stickers are there.. kinda weird how all the engine bay metals, like the headlight rod and the hose clamps look perfectly new.... I would expect some tarnishing after these years. Like somebody went through and changed/cleaned/replaced things...

All the hardware is zinc plated and then given a hexavalent chromate conversion to produce that yellow color. The zinc corrodes at a greatly increased rate with exposure to heat. Otherwise it won't really corrode much at all.

Either every piece of hardware has been replated or replaced or it's an extremely low mile car (like 7500 miles...)

My '86 924S has that steering wheel too, in brown leather to match the leather seats.

that car is what it is..... you can't hide 100,000 miles with amor-all. even has the distributor sticker. My 85 has the same wheel. The car is mint, but is it worth 25000? I paid 5600 for my 85 with 34000 miles in almost the same condition. Is 26500 less miles worth another 19400 dollars?
