PS Pump mounting question

Hi all,

Although I have done this before I forget what i need to do here. The power steering pump mounting stud is the stud that is threaded on both ends with a nut-like flange in the middle.

When mounted, depending how I turn the stud it either tightens further into the pump body, or (if i turn it the other way) it screws away from the pump body and ultimately snugs up against the bushing that holds the front of that stud captive. This also allows me more room to put the 8mm nut on the end. I am assuming I need to snug it up to that bushing and not the other way around.

Am I correct?

Thanks in advance.

GHEN

I have replaced that damn bolt along with the adj strut 3 times. I'd like to know more info as well. Tired of hearing $ bounce under my car and down the road.

I screwed it up against the bushing and then, keeping the wrench on it, tightened the 8mm nut on the end. I don't recall using a lock washer but including one under the nut wouldn't hurt.
