Soda blasting results

Hello all,

My new rule with this car is that anything that comes out gets worked over before it goes back. No putting anything dirty back in/on the car.

Since my exhaust system was out now would be a good time to clean everything. Sent the parts that didn't break, and I will be re-using, to a local soda blaster and I think the results are impressive.

Planned on painting this with high temp pain today but it is raining so that is a project for another time, till then I'll keep it warm and dry in my basement.

GHEN

I had some parts sand blasted then tried the duplicolor brand "flameproof" primer/paint combo from the FLAPS. A couple things I learned or at least got in trouble with on this first experience with real painting:

I would recommend putting primer on it asap - perhaps brushable, but I don't know. rust shows up pretty fast and although rustoleum says its for use on "lightly rusted" metal, I don't know how much that is trustworthy.

also a user recommended to me to bake it first before cooling it, then immediately painting - I'd recommend that - no water, no rust.

the results of my "flameproof" paint application - per instructions? multiple coats of primer, black paint after, baking per instructions : about 20% of the piece was chipped. happened in the last bake cycle. I am not going to repeat the process with new paint - such a time sink.

if you absolutely must store it, I'd recommend leaving it uncovered and in a dry area. I had a piece wrapped up for one day and it got rust. It is awful to see the rust spots show up after a good blasting.

Thanks guys, the day cleared so I hot water rinsed it and applied a heat gun then sprayed it with high temp rust-o-leum. I will keep the board posted with results.

GHEN,

I'm 100% on board with your reasoning. I too clean all components and hardware whenever anything comes off the car for servicing. It helps find where the leaks actually come from!!
