Sunroof adjustment help

Fellow Pelicans,
I have yet another issue I'm working on with regard to proper sunroof operation. I had to replace the sunroof cable dog and one micro-switch that disintegrated a while back. Everything operates as it should but now the sunroof rear does not lower completely down and leaks a small amount when performing a water hose test. I didn't touch any portion of the system except for the motor assembly so I'm not sure what went wrong. There is a micro-switch carrier adjustment screw that I played around with no change. Does someone out there have any idea to what the issue may be? I've read the factory manual which describe an adjustment by the roof cable/gear section (again, it wasn't touched). The adjustment required is only about 1/16" -1/8" to completely be flush with the roof line. Thanks in advance!

Patrick

Have your lifting arms gotten out of adjustment?, when I bought my '44 the drvs side is a little higher at the closed position, it was on my spring list todo but I put it off a little bit longer

As Will said, most likely an adjustment problem. If it is not closing completely, it means the cableis not pulling far enough to rotate the arms all the way down. Loosen the screws for the motor and try pulling back or rotating it more towards the rear.
If you removed the motor when working on it, you may have shifted it some.
Also check that the washer at the end of the cable(motor end) is on.
If you have not already, check out clarks garage, there is a very good description of all that could go wrong and how to fix.
Have 3 sunroofs and have had to redo one thing or another on each.

Good luck!

I replaced the motor on mine a while ago and had similar issues - when I put it back together I had the cable pulled back too far so it would totally disengage from the passenger side lifting arm. I had to remove the cable from the drive motor and move it forward approximately 1 inch - works like a champ and does not leak any longer. Clark's Garage has an excellent write up on how to make sure the lifting arms are properly positioned.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've read through Clarks as well as several other threads and the factory manual. Before the cable dog and one limit switch exploded, the mechanism worked fine with no leaks. I did move the cable back as far as I could on the motor drive and even adjusted the limit switch carrier along the rail with no real success. I ended up removing the clutch adjustment bolt to manually close the sunroof (I actually got the assembly to move an additional 1/8" to stop leaking).

968 GUY: what washer are you referring to? Since my 84 has the early rail style, the cable end is crimped to secure the cable dog.

I've run into a couple other issues this weekend with the car so I'm going to let it be for a while... another post.

Sorry. I did not look at the year of your car. I had read a thread earlier about an 87 and so I gave you some incorrect info.

No problem... I'm not going to bother with it until this weekend.
