MAF Compatibility

Hiya guys,

Ive been offered an Autothority MAF set up (Air flow stuff and chips) for a very attractive price. The setup is about 6 months used - owner had it on an 86 951 - said hes getting rid of it because it makes the car idle rough and run cold.

The price is so good I really want to grab it... he said Autothority looked at it for him when he was having his troubles and concluded that it wasnt the MAF.

I already have Autothority Stage II chips installed - can I simply leave them in and attached all the MAF stuff or would this create a problem? I think this question is redundant but Id like to make sure.. I think the chips and bolt he offered me are the same as mine anyway.

Regardless, I dont see any problem taking it off of an 86 and putting it onto an 87... anything I should look out for? Anyone have problems with MAF's?

I think you should check with AA on the MAF chips. They have chips for every situation. The AA II chips were specifically setup to run on a stock car at 15psi boost. They have a tendancey to go lean in certain RPM levels. With a MAF on the car it could be too lean. Also, If you're already running Stage II chips, don't expect a huge difference in power by moving to a MAF. You've already done the big jump going from 12psi to 15psi. If you were starting at stock configuration, there would be a big change. What you do get is quicker spool, awesome sound, and a bit better airflow.

I run AA II chips with a Huntley stage III MAF. I can run as much as 18psi with the MAF and the ARCII fuel controller. Maybe you can do the same with the AA MAF, I dont' know what it's set for.

I'm talking too much for a lurker, Just check on the chips. Don't want to go lean..

Thanks, at the price, I think Ill pick it up anyway - hell... I could sell it and make a profit. Anyway - Ill let you know how it turns out... my next project is the wastegate... I "think" it may be becoming sticky... but thats a "I heard it from this guys who says... " routine.
