944 968 swap question

Just finished installing this swap. 968 engine in a 944 car.
944s2 bellhousing , clutch , pp, ring gear on the outside, installed the 944 starter and it just spins, ( no ring gear contact) started bench checks ok.
ANY HELP?

The 968 starter is different from the 944 starter. You need part # 944.604.X.M14 sold here on PP. You could price a used one on ebay. The one for a clutch is different than one for an auto trans.

Cheers,
Larry

The real 968 part number is 944.604.104.00 for the manual car. You can find remanufactured starters for less than $200 if you search. The $254 price on Pelican seems high

swap

I am doing the same swap.
seems like you would use 944s starter with s2 flywheel etc.not a 968 starter. maybe your solenoid is not good on starter..

Hey Toy Store 968 into 944S

I am trying to figer out the wiring situation .. from what i understand only a few things have to be done on S car . e.g. green wire on ICM is cut and spliced together as it's not used.
where the confusion lies for me is on the DME ... I am doing a swap putting 968 engine in a 87 944S... one guy says all you do is get pin 7 powered by key on. The connectors are different. How do get the air to work? Any input would be appreciated.. I am also looking for links to wiring diagrams
