Exhaust question

The previous owner of my car removed the cat and welded the exhaust back to the muffler. It is too loud for me, I want put a cat back on it or is there an alternative that would give me better sound. What would you do in this situation. I am going to buy something and take it to a muffler shop to have them install it.

Here where I live the emissions controls are a little lax, so I had the shop delete the cat and weld in a resonator when the time came to do exhaust work on my 83. Still a little loud for my taste but effective. Sounds good.

consider installing a resonator. The mellow out the sharpness of the exhaust note without increasing the back pressure noticeably. Other posts on this issue if you search the histories.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
