Where is the clutch suppose to engage?
This is on an 83. OK, I have new everything... Clutch Master, slave, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch disk,, flywheel resurfaced, pilot bearing, etc. THis is my first 944 so I don't know where the clutch is suppose to engage. I've bled it, but didn't know if I might still have some air. It starts engaging about 3 inches from the floor. Definitely not at the top like the old one. I think it's fine, but just checking....

May be the original clutch as no clutch paperwork exists in my 25-year old stack of service records for dam near everything else. Some feel that the rubber center would've oxidized by now; so who knows. Anyway, from 3" to 6" the friction increases till full engagement. Touch wood but no shutter or vibrations evident. Cheers

how long are the clutches supposed to last before you replace one?

that said, i could easily kill a new clutch in less than 1/2 an hour, if that was my goal. possibly less than five minutes....

Sounds decently normal to me. Never measured. My clutch starts to grab once you get past that initial resistance point.

My pedal starts to engage about half way, how many inches that is. I replaced my original clutch in november that was stamped November 5, 1984! Car had 207k on the clock, with a broken odometer when I bought her at 181k. Clutches can go a long time if you drive respectably.
