Detaching late gas tank sender wire

87 944 NA

how does the gas level sender wire come off the cap on the tank?

Looks like a clip...

AH HA - a plug. Pull gently straight up.

How many prongs should there be? This one has three, but the fourth spot looks like it is filled with plastic? What is that?

There are three prongs, the fourth spot is blank - it does nothing.
