Rear suspension compatibility
Hi all,
Oh great brains trust; A gross error check please. I have checked the parts catalogue, but want to make sure I haven't missed something. The rear axle cross tube (torsion bar beam?) and trailing arms in a 944S have the same part numbers as those as a 944S2 according to the book. Any funny changes or ?? whatever that I should be aware of? The S is about to donate the above for rebuild upgrade of my S2 Cheers Greg |

Frankly my dear....

The only changes I would keep in mind are the hubs and brake calipers. The 87-88 944S never had the 4 pot Brembo turbo style calipers, they just had the single pot ones that all non-S 944s are fitted with.
However, if you are only changing the trailing arms and tube, then I think you should be OK, as these are basically the same. ![]()

Torsion tube and trailing arms are the same on all models (excepting the steel trailing arms in the early cars).
There might be some small changes like the crash bar lugs on the carrier, but basically they will all fit all models. Like mentioned the hubs are different for early late offset but those can be swapped on the trailing arms. |

Many thanks,
Plan is beam and arms out of S, strip, clean, new bearings and bushes, transfer the S2 specific parts across and then refit into the S2. It part of an overall suspension refresh and upgrade and The idea is to minimise the down time. The used M030 struts I bought are being serviced and modified to make them double adjustable, there will be new rear dampers, Elephant Racing sports hardness bushes all round and the Poly bronze spring plate bushes. Cheers and many thanks Greg |
