Late gas tank removal : clearing something
87 944 NA
How is the gas tank supposed to slide out exactly? It appears that there are two brackets that connect to the control arms. The brackets are attached to the body. They poke the tank as it is descending. I guess the brackets have to be removed or the gas tank gas to wiggle out? UPDATE: The "bracket" is actually 477 501 089 "mounting" and 944 331 07[5,6] 00 supporting mount for the rear axle cross tube A 944 331 045 00, and specifically - I think 477 501 089, inboard. I just dropped the tank on my parts car, and I hadn't removed the rear suspension yet. So can't recall removing any control arm brackets... But It did get stuck. Had to go inside and push it from the top to loosen it enough for it to just drop down.
But hey, if it looks like they're poking at it and making it not drop, try removing them. Unless they're a pita

OK the gas tank came out by sort of rotating back and lowering, similar to what the SM says, and the mounts actually scraped it a bit but I cut some ~2mm thick kitchen cutting board to use as cushion. The tank is also shaped apparently to help clear the mounts. The tank was not adversely affected.
As for the mounts, I am leaving well enough alone, or at least for another posting here. |
