Calif SMOG tomorrow!
So, I am going to see if my car passes smog tomorrow.. I am thinking about using 91 octane gas for cleaner burn? I normally run the 87 stuff.We did replace the O2 sensor this time around and it has the same cat that I got the car with 12 years ago.. Comments, suggestions?

I seriously doubt 91 octane will make any difference. The engine only uses 87 octane. Anything higher is a waste honestly. Octane rating just measures the gasoline's capability to resist "knock" aka ignition by compression rather than spark.

Take her for a spirited drive beforehand to get the cats nice and hot. This will clean out the cobwebs and insure maximum cat performance.

Did not need a spirited drive at all.. Passed first time through with no addional coaxing! Just 87 octane..However, new plugs, rotor cap, rebuilt head, new oil, new o2 sensor, new water pump, belts and rollers. new oil and filter, new temp sensor..Drove only the 2 miles from home to gas station, then to smog..Thanks for the info guys!!
