Bench bleeding an S2/968 brake master cylinder
I'm bench bleeding the brake master cylinder and I get no fluid flow out of the port furthest from the plunger. I bought a used one and just checked it and it's doing the same thing! No fluid coming out of the same port. Is this just a common failure when these go or am I missing something here.
(I've waited 2 months on a back order rebuilt one, then gave up and bought a used one) ![]()

i think i would have just bought a new one and been done with it. it's always cheaper to do it right the first time.
p.s. - no need to bleed the master if you have a motive power bleeder. |

I'm just fine buying used and rebuilt parts. I'm bench bleeding it to test it before I put it in the car since I'm doing it the wrong way with a used part.

Cheapest I could find is $250. I wouldn't call that inexpensive.

while it has doubled in the last 7 years, it's still not that bad. having to go back and forth to a wrecking yard costs money. the wasted time costs money. having to do the job again in a year costs money.
more than that though, getting a used door is one thing. getting a used master cylinder, and betting your life on it, is a bad idea. what happens when it fails? |

Even a bad seal would still pump brake fluid. It just wouldn't pressurize it.
Are you sure that it's getting fluid? I'd cap off the clutch MC port and fill the reservoir most of the way up. Use small strokes and close off the port somehow (pinch the line ect) as you let the plunger out. |

Flash, thank you for your thoughtful response and concern for my life. I also had a thougtful response, but I see someone is trying to answer my question.
Jrboulder, Yes, I had the clutch port blocked off and almost full and the two port tubes well below the fluid line, and with varying strokes on the plunger, I get no fluid flow to the resevoir. The rear port works fine. Back and forth fluid flow until the bubbles are gone. Same thing with my original master cylinder. Also, I get a ever so slight bind around the middle of the stroke. I'm assuming it should be smooth all the way through.

Have you looked into the cardone return and rebuild service?
I don't know about the specifics but it sounds like for about $100 they'll rebuild your MC. |

They did a good job of rebuilding the front brake calipers for my 944 (hasn't killed me... well yet) although the caliper bolts tried to kill me...

I have a replacement coming for the used one I bought, but I'd certainly be interested in that. I found the form to fill out from Cardone but can't find any prices. Is there another website with that info? I couldn't find one with a google search.
A Cardone rebuilt unit was the one I was waiting for that kept getting back ordered. $99.
