Clicking sound from front top of engine

I just got my car running again after a sensor failure and now I am hearing a clicking sound coming from the top, front of the engine. I haven't investigated it much yet but I think that is where it is coming from. Not sure if it was there before although I have only had this car for a few weeks and haven't driven it much due to the sensor issue so I might not have been paying that close attention to it before. The frequency increases with the RPMs so I am guessing it is a valve or lifter or something like that???

Any suggestions of what I should look at first?

It's hard to say what you might be hearing. The fuel injectors make a kind of loud licking noise. That is normal. Other than that, I'm not sure.

It might be the injectors. Would the clicking increase with the RPMs from the injectors? I assume yes as more fuel is supplied. If it is the injectors where would I hear the clicking coming from?

I believe the injectors do click faster when the RPMs go up. I don't have my car with me right now to check. The noise comes from the injectors. They are on the top of the engine, and off towards the passenger side.

I just checked on my car. The ticking noise from the injectors does increase with the RPMs.

A really cool trick is to put the business end of a screwdriver against your injectors or whatever, and the handle to your ear. The sounds are magnified and it's easy to analyze maladies. It's like an acoustic magnifying glass!

Never heard that one. I will have to try it.

After you discover the normal sound of the clicking injectors, you might want to focus on the cam key gear and bolt area if the clicking is near the cam gear. Use the screwdriver trick or maybe spend a couple of bucks at Harbor Freight for stethoscope.

If the cam bolt is working loose- it will distroy the cam key hole and a new cam is required.

An updated cam bolt should have been installed by now? Pelican sells it.

After a couple weeks I don't hear that clicking sound anymore. I can hear the fuel ingectors clicking but that was not what I heard. The clicking was much louder. I'll just keep an ear out for it and if I hear it again I might be able to investigate further and figure out exactly where it is coming from. I am going to check the CAM bolt just in case. Maybe I was just hearing things.

You may have had a weak/soft lifter symptom.

You could try a bottle of SeaFoam (many posts) and it may clean out the lifters.
