Letter from Porsche regarding 944 S Power Steering Switch failure

Actually, the unfused switch caused wiring harnesses to melt... Even today, it's an expensive repair.

Got told to unplug the wires and tape the connectors then zip them up.

How would one tell if this modification listed in the letter been done, I see nothing of the sort in the service history with my car or on the recall stamp card.

Look at the switch on the PS pump. If it is electrically connected, the work has not been done. You can do the work yourself.

I think the fix they did is the black and yellow wire that runs from the ps pump to the connector in front of the fuse box (in the engine bay). That wire has been added into the connector and through the grommet in the firewall and then into the fuse box after the car left the factory.

But I could be wrong.

The best fix is just to disconnect them and tape up the connectors. On my last belt/seal/manifold work I removed the wires from the car altogether.

From the letter, it sounds like the fix was to add a fuse to the circuit, not to disconnect the wiring entirely?

Is that the offending wire? I've never known what that was lol and at times its not connected.

Yep, that's the one.

The PCNA fix of adding a fuse was to keep the (totally unnecessary) anti-stall switch functional without causing a fire.

That wire always did look a little fishy. So now if thats the wire thats causing the problem, how should I sort this out?

Disconnect it and tape the end?
Rig up the fuse and such per the letter from porsche?
Take it to Porsche and have them do it on da house?

Just disconnect it and tape up the connectors so they don't accidentally cross. You don't need this function.

I removed the wire completely from the harness. Didn't like having a useless wire running around in there.
