Vents were blowin heat. Fixed!! Pics??

My Vents have been blowing heat instead of fresh air. I crawled under recently and saw this rod hanging under the dash and figured it was the culprit as i had read about this before on various forums. I attached it to this whit plastc clip that seemed as though the seide of the threaded rod fit into the clip. Nopw it works. The rod and clip in question are under the drivers side lower dash. its inline with the gas pedal but not as close to the firewall. These pics are from my 20$ digital camera but i think you should see what I mean.

This design does not look very secure.

How long before it pops out again?
