924 Hot Start Problems

My '80 924 has hard starting issues when hot. It takes multiple attempts before it fires. I just replaced the injectors thinking that the check valves were leaking and flooding the motor, slightly better but it still takes a few cranking attempts to light off. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Battery is good, cables good too, I even added a second ground cable from the neg term to the engine (the stock jumper looked sub-standard). Fuel pump seems fine. When its cold it fires right up and runs good. Once warm it will re-fire right away, but if you wait to start after about 5 minutes or so it takes multiple attempts. Then it would be miss firing and after reving it up to clear it out it would run fine. I just did the injectors this evening and it still is hard starting when warm but it doesn't miss once started. The injectors were probably leaking. Pulled two plugs and they looked okay, not fouled. Any thoughts on the thermal time switch that controls the warm start solenoid on the fuel distribution unit?

this may be some CIS issue I'm not well versed in... I know 944 a lot better. I'm sure some 924 guru can figure this out!

So, why do you make any 924 suggestions?

The most common hot-start problem source in a 924, is/are the fuel accumulators. Some cars have one, some have two. They are located in the rear in line with the fuel pump and tank. There is a small screw at the bottom of these, if you remove it and it leaks fuel, then the accumulator is shot. They basically hold pressure in the system.

Was worth a shot at the basics.

Alright, you've got some reading to do. First head over to 924Board.org :: Index because those guys are the experts on your car. Second Google advanced search (Google Advanced Search) is your friend before any questions need to be asked.

Just by typing "hot start site:924board.org" into Google I get all these which contain all the info you need on the most hashed over and infamous 924 problem ever.

start here: 924Board.org :: View topic - Regimen for correctly diagnosing Hot Start Problem

If that doesn't get you going then there're more posts for you to read.

924Board.org :: View topic - HOT START PROBLEM!!

924Board.org :: View topic - Hot Start Problem Fix

924Board.org :: View topic - Hot start problem

Finally, if that doesn't get you up and starting nicely check out the tech section 924.ORG FAQ while it may be old there's a ton of relevant info there and it even contains it's own hot start fix Hot Start Problem Fix although a lot of people may not agree that it's correct.

Hope this helps, and remember Google advanced search (Google Advanced Search) is your friend.

BEFORE cranking, press and HOLD the accelerator peddle all the way to the floor. This will usually help quite a bit with hot starts. In fact, this procedure is specified in the original owner's manual.

This is the only way I found it would start. I've done it this way since I've owned it. It still takes multiple cranks. Thanks for the suggestion none the less!!

Thanks PT, I read the 924.org fix you suggested. I think I'll be trying the push button to parrallel the TTS. This seems like a quick and easy thing

Installed the hot start push button last weekend. Works like a champ. I just have to work on how long the button needs to be pushed for starting. Thanks again for the helpful recommendations!!
