Rear 3pt Manual belts

I know this has been discussed before and my understanding is that 87+ cars have the "hump" in the cargo area to mount the inertia reels under the carpet, even if the carpet isn't cut for the belt to pass through.

My question is, is there a mounting hole for an upper bolt on 87 and down cars for maybe a manual 3pt belt? I have seen pics of a plastic cap the supposedly covers a mounting point for a upper bolt. Would this be enough for a 3pt manual belt?


Apparently the 944 I want doesn't exist. I want rear shoulder belts and Fuchs/cookie cutters at the same time.

I don't have any pictures but I know the cap you are talking about... Yes it is there and is definitely sufficient for a seat belt...

Yes, that hole is meant for the 3pt belt on the late cars. However the bracket to mount the belt mechanism on the car may not be present on your car. You need to pull the carpet back and look. I think its one of those random things, my '87 n/a did not have them. Pretty sure my friends '89 n/a has them.

3 point seat belts were first on the '88 model.

'88 and up cars have the necessary hardware for them.

That being said, I have seen occasionally a set of seat belts for sale with the metal brackets included to mount them into the cargo area. You would have to weld them into your car, and the rear cargo side carpets are different. Not sure about -'87 cars having the upper bolt mount or not.

Agreed on your conclusion, at least with OEM wheels. Fuchs/Cookie Cutters are early offsets, so if you want 3 point belts and those, you will have to go aftermarket.

I plan on mounting a belt like this in an early offset 944 IF the upper hole is actually there.



This should eliminate the need for the cargo area hump and reels, and still make me feel confortable picking up/dropping off the kids.

I am 944 shopping and would like an early offset 944 so I can run the fuchs/cookie cutters.

yup, got it done. Used this seatbelt.

Roadster 3 Point Retractable Seat Belt Bucket Seat

Pretty expensive in my book but the non- retractables are more reasonable. I used the upper mounting hole behind the plug for the reel, and the factory locations for the other 2 bolts. I also ordered a 90 degree bend from westco to orient the reel properly. I also had to hog out one of the holes in the 90 degree bend for one of the bolts. Can't remember which one. See pics below.

Gaw, I had the same question. Since I never had children, my mind travels down the adult passenger route. LOL!!! I use the rear seats as a place to store stuff.

I can use the rear seat area as a paperclip. There's no way any of the children I know to fit there with me in the front seat.

My kids use the lap belts when they travel in the back. what the big deal? lap belts are legal afterall.

I am a small safety nazi so my kids fit in the back for now.
In about 5 years I'll be screwed as they will be too big. I may have to move on to a turbo Saab/Volvo/BMW for a proper rear seat.
