i used the old exhaust sealing ring, is this bad?

as the title states.

i ordered the new part. i took the exhaust off at the turbo, in order to put the factory exhaust system back on for emissions purposes. when i went to put the new ring in the exhaust flange, i discovered i had ordered the wrong one. oops. being that the car was apart and i had the old ring, in fairly good shape, i put the old ring back in. and it seems to seal just fine. the car passed emissions with FLYING colors...

how worried should i be?

I have used a used one before with no problems.

Ditto... my secondary pipe has the exhaust sealing ring/donut pretty much welded to the pipe from time so I just reuse it for smog..

wondering about the exhaust paste vis-a-vis the ring - where does the paste go? outside the ring? if it gets inside, can't it clog the muffler?

What are you talking about? I used no paste at all.. It was a tight seal and hard enough just to bolt up

I googled and found exhaust repair paste.. which might actually be useful for my microscopic hairline leak from the header.. but since when do you need exhaust paste dude
