illustration 201-00 parts: near fuel tank/muffler
I am stumped/in a jam figuring out a couple parts for certain on illustration 201-00:
14. 944 201 435 00 heat protection plate is this for the *muffler*? if so, it should attach to ... 20. 951 201 315 00 restraining strap, left side but the illustration shows no bracket piece on the strap - it is just a plain strap like no. 21. What is more is that there are some clips on the holes where it attaches to the heat shield, but these clips aren't shown. I am not sure what type of clip they are. then, if you actually look at the fuel tank, there's a metal plat attached to it by clips. I suspect no. 14 above could be this plate based on the diagram, though probably not. finally some fastener trivia: 15. N 012 653 3 lock washer : what size/specs is this? the PP catalog doesn't say 19. N 015 482 1 speed nut (for fuel pump cover) : same deal the clips as mentioned above for the fuel tank strap bracket. mine are probably lost now. and then the screws that hold the muffler heat shield in. I might have lost mine, so I can't back-track while poring over the fasteners in the FLAPS. thanks for any hints.

Hi..Item 14 is an aluminium and some kind of heat resistant wadding (may be asbestos or fibreglass) composite. It fits directly above the transaxle (not the muffler) and actually clips to the underside of the fuel tank. There are 4 clips (15) that simply slide push onto small metal pegs that are fitted to the tank. Calling them lock washers is a bit misleading! There are no straps involved. So, your suspicions where right....
The 'speed nut' is a simple self-tapping screw push-fit clip. The sort you can get from a hardware store. As long as it can take the screw you intend to use, it will be fine. Mine had all rusted and busted so I just used some spare ones from my 'box of bits'.

I reckon it is part number 33 on illustration 801-05 (main group 8 - body). Looking at the design of the part shown that would be the closest, bear in mind that there appears to be three different varieties of muffler shield depending on model and year.

so should I start a new thread "where are the new exhaust heat shields?" it sounds like an aftermarket manufacturer should have been making them already, being so prone to damage and so critical. so that would be: 951 503 139 00 -86 951 503 139 00 87- M249 (Automatic) 944 503 137 00 87-
