Blow off Valve question
I think Ive decieded to get down to doing some serious work on the car... but my budget is limited (isnt everyones?).
Not necessarily for gain.. but more for the sheer sound... I would love to install a blow off valve that vents to atmosphere. Ive asked a few people about this and the general concensous is that it "can" be done on an air meter equipt car but its not recommended. Now... I really dont have the money to shell out for an MAF right now... what am I looking at doing? Im not well versed in this area - I dont understand why the stock air meter would get in the way of this... can someone explain? Is there a way around this? I think Im looking at about $600-$700 for pipes and a valve, what is the cheapest way to make it work without risking damage to anything? (Also, off topic) Saw an 86 951 black on black yesterday on Rt 378 near Quakertown, PA for sale if anyone is looking in the area. Would make a great track car (stone chips galore) - hes asking $8K for it with 107K miles. Service history from 1990. Thanks guys,

well im not sure about the porsche cars, but i have a turbo Mazda RX-7 that i installed an open vent (atmospheric) BOV on. it has an air metering box similar to the ones on 944s. it gives me no problems and actualy serves as a performance upgrade since the stock valve leaked at more than 9 psi (i run around 15psi). im not too terribly positive on wether or not a 944 can run an open vent. you could always buy one anyway and if it cant be open vented then plumb it back in somehow. my .02

The expensive way to do it is with two blowoff valve like my old Callaway Turbo and my new SFR SC kit. On vents into the atmosphere, while the other back into the intake. On the other hand, Go Fast Bits makes a hybrid BOV which is a combination of the atmosphere and plumb back bov in one unit.
