Good information. Ultimately either a ton of money or forced induction, which will still cost a lot of money lol.
Everything that was done kind of became a while your in there sort of thing. After the S2 manifold and the chip, that will pretty much be where I draw the line for engine components for power. Although I was on Lindsey Racing's website and saw some things about machining the water passage... S2 block with modified S head? Wonder how much it would cost to have a block machined for the water passage...;) |
That supercharger idea is sounding better and better... small pulleys, intercooling, stand alone management could increase output even more.

jd - boy do i know the "while you're in there" thing. that's how i got to $160k on the blue car.
lap - gotta watch how far you go. once you get past about 6psi boost, you have to start thinking intercooler. then you have to change things to make even more boost, to make up for the intercooler loss. then you have to rethink how fast you are spinning the head unit. i had to go through this with the 968 kit. yes, i could ultimately make more power with an intercooler, but that raised the cost, pushed the curve farther to the right, and was a whole lot more complicated to install for the backyard mechanic. in the end, i felt that low end torque was more important than a few upper end horsepower, and that adding $1000 to the pricetag was just not what most people wanted to do. i ended up with a bolt on 5# kit that made great torque and was daily driver reliable, and was even CARB certified. that was the real moment of truth and point of success. decisions decisions - been there - done that. there is no "one size fits all" answer. it really depends on how you drive the car, and what your budget and mechanical aptitude is. |

No Cams, don't need them with the correct Ported Headwork, Just the correct combo. Exhaust, ported Headwork, Valves, Intake, Ignition & Fuel. Then Tune it to the max. "Can't put out what you can't put in". Right! Raising Efficiency is the Key. "When you make the power-train more efficient the power (Torque) comes". Heat and Lubrication are big factors on any 4 cycle combustion engine otherwise the your stuck at 23% (Carnot 4 cycle engine criteria). The more potential power you can make the more Heat always shows up. Cooling must be BIG. Learned that from my NIRA/NHRA Racing days in 1997 to 2001... Keep us posted, Later... |
