Hanksville cage, MUST remove windshield?

The instructions say to remove it, and Hank says it might be possible without. Anyone done it without removing the windshield?

Not sure their method of construction, but the questionable part is gonna have to do with being able to get a 360 deg weld around the tube at the upper left and right at top of the A pillar.

A cage can have a U shaped top hoop, in which case it welds/connects at the upper main hoop and you only have concern about two down bars to the floor at the kick panel and the upper weld at the U shaped hoop. Your chances would be better with this style.

Other type is, the upper side bars that run along the upper door opening make up the left and right sides of the hoop and there's a front cross bar that spans the A pillars across top of windshield. This type would be most difficult to weld with windshield in.

Either way, you are better off having it removed.
There are mobile window/windshield guys that could pull it in your driveway.

The windshield might look great, but it will in no way compare to a brand new one in a race car for view.

Assuming you are racing (the cage), you'd just as soon get used to replacing windshields, sand/gravel pitting and chips make them a consumable item.

well, i went at the windsheild with a putty knife (hot and cold) along the sides and top on the inside, and then a guitar string along the bottom, and got it out successfully. the frame is toast, no avoiding that, but the window is in tact which is good.
gluing it back in without the frame... ill figure out something.
cage is in the process
