finally got my 944 Turbo
just bought a nice 1987 '44 turbo, ive had several base '44s an S and an S2, I've always wanted a turbo. I found one that looks decent rides good and only has 82,000 miles, test drove it but haven't yet registered or insured it. I'll probably be selling off my S2 to avoid divorce court! The new car does have a couple little (hopefully) probs, One is a high idle, varies between 1200 and 1800 rpm, it did this after a highway test drive and wouldn't settle down. Any thoughts or input on anything about this car would be greatly appreciated, thx. I'll post a pic later

Congrats! Hope to see some pics soon.
If it's idling high and going up and down, I'd guess a vacuum leak. You might test the vacuum: How to Use and Interpret a Vacuum Gauge

Idle valve hoses are leaking or the idle valve is stuck wide open.
TB or MAF leaking is another thought as well. Might as well plan on pulling the intake manifold off and going through the AOS system and the hoses that hide under the intake before making any drastic changes to the idle adjustment, etc.

good news! thanks for all your help. I checked the idle adjustment screw, it was way loose, tightened it down and it brought the idle right down. I'll have to see if it stays good after some highway driving, but right now it's steady at 950 rpm. Found the info on clark's garage, that's a great site as well!

Setting the idle speed is a good start. Try doing it with the ISV disabled for the best results. Instructions available on Clarks.. just requires a piece of wire so two pins can be jumped on the diagnostic port.
Idle Speed Adjustment
