a transmission gasket installation

wondering if non-hardening gasket sealant would be good to put on this paper gasket (part no. 20, 016 301 455 A, see pic from the PET), or if it should go on as-is.

I think only to have it stay in place while you bolt it on. And even then just like a super thin coat so it does not squees out. Curil-t I think it's called would work. Still got plenty left after using it on lots of seals on these cars

Reason I ask is Wayne Dempsy's how-to for the opposing seal calls for non-hardening sealant. I don't have the link handy.
