Had a great time at VIR this weekend!
I had a great time at VIR this past weekend, and came away from the event pretty much completely satisfied with the recent suspension "refresh". The car handled very well and was rock solid all weekend. I feel like maybe I'm finally pushing the car hard enough to consider running track pads and something other than all-season tires...
I shared padock space with a buddy who drives a Cayman R. I do miss having my CS on track - the Cayman is just so darned good and FAST - but I'm sure I'm learning far more with the S2. After all, I have to do all the driving myself. There are no "electronic nannys" to save my butt! It was great to finally get to see harveyf at the track. I didn't get any track time with him as we are in different run groups, but he looked like he was running well when I was able to watch from the sidelines. I feel like I always learn some new technical tidbit when I talk to Harvey - that's always fun! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey Michael,
It was fun running behind you. Your car is quick and was the best looking 944 at the track. The weekend started slow but turned out great. I hope to drive in your run group again next year. Andy |

what type of event?
Was this event sponsored / run by a Porsche club, or was it an open track day? Looks like a lot of fun!

This was a Drivers Education event sponsored by the Carolinas Region PCA. It certainly was a lot of fun!

have to watch the calendar
Thanks, I'm not too far away over in Mooresville ( South of Statesville). I work in Winston and commute back and forth each day, so a quick run up to VIR would be an easy ride. I'll keep an eye out for upcoming events. I work with a guy who owns a Boxter and is in PCA, I'll have to ask if he attends any of these things.
If all goes as planned, I'm heading to Zebulon to put timing/balance shaft belts and a water pump in the car. Then it should be driveable. Chuck |

Are you going to a Porsche indy-shop in Zebulon?

wrenching myself
I have a buddy who is a great mechanic as a hobby, and we enjoy working on this kind of stuff together. He has a wonderful 3 car heated / air conditioned shop. We're going to do the work ourselves.
When we picked up the car we got it running in a few hours. 3 weeks ago we did all the fluids (brakes, clutch, PS, transaxle, oil) , and found the bad fuel line. This weekend is the attempt at the belts and waterpump + antifreeze. Unfortunately I live 3 hours away and work has had me tied up so I can't get here often enough to work on it. With some luck the car will have all the critical stuff done and be long term driveable and get it back to my house. Clutch, brakes and tires are good. I still have a funky headlight switch and the reverse light switch to play with for inspection, but that is easy to play with at home. So fingers crossed for a productive weekend. I would love to get it in shape for a track day. |

If you have a 16-valve motor, I'm sure you've heard the dire warnings about replacing the chain tensioner pads. Mine were done not that long ago - or many miles ago - but I hope to make replacing them a winter down-time project. Re-building the brakes and some stainless lines are another project...
