I'm going in

Haven't been here for a bit. It was about a year ago, nearly to the day that my S2 inexplicably dropped a valve at idle speed. The resulting collision of piston and valve broke through the side of the cylinder wall. This only 12K miles after putting the engine back together post chain tensioner disaster.

The day before New Year's Eve I drove 8 hours to Huntsville AL and picked up another S2, low miles, hit in the front. Dismantled it to bare shell. Just ordered all my stuff from Pelican to do a reseal and rod bearings on the engine from that car, which is on a stand. I'll install that, along with the low miles front suspension, Konis, limited slip and cherry linen interior. The project starts tomorrow.

The things we do for these cars.

Sounds like a fun project! The end result should be nice! Post up pictures along the way.

What're you going to do with the busted engine?

I will part out the busted engine. The block and head are trashed, but there are components that have value, like the crank and cams. Once this project is complete, I'm gonna have a big parts sale, the proceeds from which will go towards my "get the new 911 painted" fund. :-)

Spotless inside, oil pan had zero sludge:

Old rod bearings, which looked pretty good except for the one I dropped inside of the block. Had to retrieve it with a claw.

Oil pan back in place, balance shaft out for reseal

Front of engine all clean and new seals in place
