key blanks/ keys for 944/968/928 etc!

well of course, i lost my spare key a couple of weeks ago. i tried usual places-canadian tyre, blah blah. even a local "expert" lock-smith. no good. special blanks mate,-you will need to special order them. fou-toi !!
today i was browsing thru the home depot store. by chance, i stopped at the key-cutting section. i was looking at the blanks, and reckon i found one that was very close to my porsche key. when the ever-helpful person came over, and enquired, i told him that they would not have the correct blank, probably more chance of sighting "bigfoot", than a porsche blank!!
imagine my surprise, when he produced a catalogue, and right after pontiac, there was a section for porsche. all models from 911/12/ 914 all 944/ 968/928/ boxster, and on. even the special blank for the 911 with the transponder!! so, after i picked myself up from the floor, in total disbelief, i got him to cut 2 keys. even have the little plastic end, on them.
for the 944 series, you will need to ask for either "x9", or in my case "ILCO 73 VB-P"
they are exact, they work just great, and no pain or hassle getting them from herr porsche. only cost me $4 canadian.
just my #$ cents worth. hope it helps you out.
if you have no outlet, i will be more than happy to mail you a couple of blanks, if you are really stuck.
regards, bob.

good advice and im glad to see you can find the less expensive resources for parts. i made the mistake of ordering the lighted key blank for my car a while back. little did i know the key was made of steel. not even the porsche dealership could cut it. luckily after about 6 months of searching i found this little mom and pop place that said they could cut it, so it was finaly cut. but thats part of the porsche ownership right?

i also have the lighted key. but it's not steel, it must be some type of composite metal, even though a magnet picked it up. I went to the local hardware store and they said it was steel and that their machine wouldn't cut it, but they tried it anyway and it cut really easy...
