clutch hose
Should I dare use heat to loosen the hose nut in the clutch master cylinder? It has had plenty of penetrating oil on it without success.;in fact a quality spanner slipped on the nut somewhat rounding it.

I would definitely NOT USE OPEN FLAME.
If you are going to replace the hose, I'd use a small pipe wrench like shown. It will likely mangle the nut, but it won't slip. ![]() If you must use heat, use a heat gun. Try not to get it hotter than you have to. If you have a pyrometer try to not go over 250F. This is the approximate continuous temp allowed for nitrile or Buna-N (the likely seal material in the clutch master cylinder). For short time periods it can be allowed to get up to 400F, but should be avoided. Also, if I were to do this, I'd take aluminum foil and blanket the area all around the nut/clutch master cylinder so everything else in the area is shielded from the heat. Good Luck |

Have you tried a flare nut wrench? AKA line wrench.

You cannot get what I call a brake pipe spanner (a ring spanner with a perimeter slot to permit it to slide over brake pipe)on because of the large fittings and hose right near the master cylinder. I have an adjustable temperature heat gun that goes up to 400C so I will try that first if I can get it near enough.
