Early 944 D.I.Y. Euro Front Bumper?

I really like the euro front bumper, with small black bumperettes!

Did some searching on the old "The Google" looking at the various threads on "Euro Front Bumpers." Found many threads, here on Pelican and the competitors forums, but really did get an answer I was looking for! However I did learn some things!

What I learned:
People have had them shipped over from Europe, found on Ebay.
There are fiberglass ones out there, to expensive for me!
Euro bumpers are made of aluminum (I think) or was it fiberglass?
Euro bumpers don't have the shock absorber mounted to them!
Euro bumpers are recessed, due not having the mounted to them? (I think)

What I was thinking, since I have numerous donor cars near me and I can get a bumper off one for $40, and reference the picture above and a cutting wheel, fashion something similar. I could add fog lights or brake ducts/air intake.

Dumb or "Not Dumb" idea?

Figured I could get the smaller bits and pieces of Ebay Europe, if wanted to!

Hi..Being in the UK I can confirm that the 'Euro' bumper is made of a fibreglass composite material (I have never heard of an aluminium one). It is solidly mounted to the chassis rails, no shocks are present. The recessing could be down to the fact that the solid mount is shorter than the shock version.

+1 confirm they are fiberglass, they are much lighter, they use shorter mounts that collapsable to prevent damage rather than compress like the US shocks.

Also the driving lights are different to the US under bumper lights as are the turn signals.

Thus, my question, as I would like to do this to my car, other than importing a bumper from Europe, via Ebay.

By the time you have imported the small parts used, eg: mounts, light surrounds, bumper pads and bought new lights you'll be at about $500 and still have to source a Euro bumper locally to avoid high shipping costs.

There is however a "snub nose" mod you can do quite cheaply with the US bumper:

I agree that it probably might get pricey.

Yes, I've seen the "shaved" and "Snub" nose threads and they are interesting, but something like that just isn't my cup of tea, from a looks stand point.

I'll just keep cruising the forums and EBay and see what I can find.

Thanks for your post!

indeed. the euro ones are quite light. I can hold mine horizontally with my arm out straight horizontally and hold it there for several minutes. There is a few oddball aluminium ones floating around though. I think they were a market variation as opposed to an option. They look like a cross between the euro and us types.

They mount onto 2 brackets as Rhett says. the tow eye screws into the lefthand side one when you remove the rubber pad.

i*click* for large photo of mount

there are 2 types of driving light/ park light for the euro bumpers. a single bulb and a twin bulb light. the both do the park light and driving light function, but I prefer the light output from the twin bulb type.

Of note, even though the Euro 924 (1976-1985) and 924S (1987-19880 have a different shaped front bumper from the 944, the indicators and driving lights are the same.
