Transmission Shifting Issues
Tried another forum but thought this one may be better, I have a 1988 924s, did not run when bought, replaced the clutch. By pulling the transmission. (so I could have done something wrong but don't know what) After much work and money, in equal proportion it now runs.
My issue is that it appears there is no first gear, and that second and third are in switched positions. I am driving now by starting by pulling out in 2nd which is in the up position on the pattern instead of down left. I say second and third are reversed but actually second covers everywhere in the upper position that isn't 5th. Fourth seems to be correct and so is reverse. Is there an adjustment to the transmission, did I put something on backwards, it just seems straightforward fore and aft linkage, or has someone been inside it and how to do I tell?? |

Sounds like the rear shifter linkage is on incorrectly.
Look around for some pictures of a transaxle with the shifter linkage attached and look at yours. The good news here is that you should be able to check and fix it (if necessary) while it is still on the car. Good luck, Keith

Thanks guys kinda what I thought but since it did not run when I bought it wanted to make sure that there was not a common or uncommon known issue, thanks for the pics they will be a great help when I get back under it.
I owned a 924 in Germany and just couldn't resist this when I found it, the 2.5 is so much more than the 2.0. Love the sound but hate the wires and sensors that go to everything and it was not a well maintained car. |
