Oil Pickup Tube Porn :)

Setting up an engine for our new 944 Spec / Chumpcar. Obviously the objective here is to make it as reliable as possible, especially the oiling department.

1) Cross-drilled the crankshaft, adding an additional exit hole for oil to keep the connecting rod bearings lubricated. I realized later that the better way to do this was to ONLY drill #2 and #3 journals, so that they are the ones that get more oil. Maybe on the next one, I guess.

2) Lindsey Racing oil pickup tube ring and Ishihara-Johnson reinforcement. Both items were MIG'ed to the pickup tube per vendor recommendations.

Final installation on the block:

3) Lindsey Racing oil pan baffle. Welded into the Aluminum 8R pan per instructions:

Very nice, thanks for sharing.

Yes Porsche realized after the 83's that a cross-drilled crank added nothing, instead just make 2&3 bigger than the rest or as you said just cross-drill 2&3 in future.

Not sure I can agree with that. I can't ever remember hearing of an 83 that spun a rod bearing. I know mine were in unbelievable shape when they were changed. They looked brand new at nearly 150K miles.
