starter issue
 

Installed a new starter and as soon as I connected the battery the starter inguaged and tried to turn over. The keys were no where near the ignition and my ass was no where the seat. WTF? Here is how I wired the new starter. What is going on?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388771483.jpg

There could be three connections to the starter:

1. Main positive cable that drives the motor when the solenoid is engaged
2. Ground cable for a return current path. (ground could also be thru the bell housing and mounting bolts instead and no ground cable as yours looks to be)
3. Solenoid terminal with cable that runs to ignition switch.

Your wiring looks correct to me. Check the following:

1. Is the main cable or terminal somehow contacting the solenoid terminal or cable (the smaller one)?
2. Is your ignition switch stuck? You could disconnect the smaller terminal and check for voltage on the wire with a volt meter or test light...
3. Is it possible the solenoid is stuck? Is this a bad starter? Take it to autozone or wherever it was purchased to be tested? Call them first to see if they can test it?

turns out there was a grounding issue. the positive to the starter was touching the starter housing and caused some black magic to occur. all is well now! thanks for the responses!

also swapped out the dme relay.
