Budget is going to dictate your options, also your driving plans.
Low cost:under $500 Medium: $500 to $1100 range High: $+1100 to +2800
Ultra Nuts: $+2800 to $6500

Low budget could mean good used Gabriel GP2's and some lowered springs. 25% Improvement over stock
Medium: used Koni's and spring Combo, *** This is a great place to be all around and driving expectations*** up to 40%
High- Serious/competition: (Coil over + Uretane Bushings)Check out Lindsey Racing or RS Barn 40-70%
Ultra Nuts: (Coil over + Arms +$$) ElephantRacing.com +70% to 110%

Hope this helps...

Are you sure you need front springs? Odd unless you're modding the car. Sachs/Boge are best stock replacement all round; KYB is okay up front. Stay away from Monroe and Gabriel (neither brand lasted 6 months in either of my early 944s). Bilstein are great. BTW, no springs in rear, what with torsion bar.

These recommendations are for street/everyday driving.

Slam:

I have Gabriel Ultra GR2 installed 1 yrs ago in my rear with no issues so far. I drive hard and suspension is tight. Sounds like your experience is with a older generation designed product. One of my rear race Koni Coil-overs was leaking so i had to put something in there until i did get them both serviced. Gabriel Ultra's work for me. Quite sure the front's are similarly constructed. Big valve and Larger gas tube/housing with a great ride, Kyb's lasted less than 1 year. Never again....Not a Monroe man at all.

If you have an early car, you may simply be able to buy inserts for the struts - which are a lot less expensive. 944online.com - Suspension Find Parts For Your Porsche 944 And Get Your Car Back On The Road.

I've used the Boge inserts and they're great.

Read this:

Suspension Information and Upgrades

Then read this:

924Board.org :: View topic - Race shock/strut options - Bilstein front, QA1 rear

And now go back to the previous thread again.

Got a plan now? Go do some research on what is available and what you can afford.

I've got a set of weltmeister lowering springs for sale ($100) and you can get rear torsion bar springs from CIP1.com (details in the thread above). With a decent set of strut inserts and shocks, you'll be a happy fohfoh owner

I have a set of front struts and springs ready to install with about 5000 miles on them. I will let you have the set for $50 plus shipping.

G44850 for $28!! Guru944, thanks for the tip. At that price maybe I can afford to experiment. I'm a Sachs/Boge fan ATM but that may change.
